Why You May Need a Colposcopy
Your doctor may recommend a colposcopy if you:
●Had an abnormal Pap smear
●Experience post-coital (after sex) bleeding
●Have unexplained vaginal discharge or chronic pelvic discomfort
●Have visible lesions or growths on the cervix or vaginal walls
What to Expect During the Procedure
Colposcopy is performed on an outpatient basis and usually takes 10–20 minutes. The procedure is similar to a Pap smear and is generally painless, although you may feel mild discomfort. If abnormal areas are detected, a small biopsy may be taken for further testing.
